We contacted Joseph Medcalf Funeral Services, Matraville, on the Sunday morning that my grandfather passed away. Having a 24/7, 365 day phone service available, was a great help especially as it was a weekend and we ourselves felt lost and numb.
A member of the team came to collect my grandfather's body that same afternoon, and would have been there even earlier had we not had relatives who needed to travel back from Canberra before the body could be transferred to the funeral home.
He was so comforting, compassionate, supportive and the body retrieval process was done so respectfully.

Our family was able to make an appointment with Michelle Fisher and the JM team for the following afternoon, where all funeral arrangements were made and details confirmed.
Being able to give our beloved dad, grandfather and great grandfather a beautiful send off within 9 days, brought our family some closure and comfort especially in the lead up to Christmas.

Michelle was very thorough with her contact in the days leading up to the funeral, clearly communicating requests for any information she needed or any updates she had, even phoning just to check in on my mum and our family, to see if we needed anything.

On the afternoon of my grandfather's private viewing, Michelle gently walked my parents and aunty & uncle in first so they could see how my grandfather looked, knowing that not everyone is comfortable with seeing deceased bodies, especially given my 2.5 year old son and niece were with us.
I appreciated the thoughtful gesture and particular attention to detail that was a transparent mesh cloth over my grandfather, which allowed us to see him but acted as a comforting barrier for any of our immediate family members who were a bit more apprehensive about seeing my grandfather's body that way, and could be pulled back if anyone wanted to do that.

The funeral day was really hot and humid, but Michelle and the team were so professional, just as always.
They greeted our family, checked in to see how we were coping, communicated with and clearly instructed the pall bearers at each progressive stage as required.
The team at JMFS also set up a livestream link for us, which allowed many friends and family who could not attend, particularly those overseas, to still witness the brief but beautiful service for my grandfather.

The funeral service and burial processes were seamless thanks to the professionalism and efficiency of Michelle and her team.

Mum and I were also pleasantly surprised and touched by the gesture of the laminated picture card on my grandfather's crypt just a few days after his funeral, when we went to visit him with some flowers.
Again, another detail that made so much impact (as the funeral home we used for my grandmother in 2023 did not do this.)
They even assisted with obtaining the death certificate and making additional copies for any additional distribution as required.

Michelle and her team were incredible with everything they did and I would highly recommend their services to anybody who finds themselves in the unfortunate circumstance of having to arrange a funeral for a loved one.
